The importance of balance is universal in everything that you do but is almost never discussed. Even down to the simplest things we do like walking require some level of balance. Beyond walking, balance is required when you are carrying things, competing in any sport, and especially in martial arts. Bruce Lee, one of the best martial artists ever, based much of his life on finding the sense of balance. Going back even farther than that, old east Asian schools of thought such as Buddhism and Confucianism stressed finding balance.

Why this focus on balance? The reason is that regardless of your skill level, if you can maintain a better sense of balance in what you are doing, then you will be able to perform a task more effectively than someone else at the same level. While balance isn’t the only thing that should be trained, by incorporating balance training into your life, you will see that it is clearly a magnifier of your current skill level in any sport or task.
